Thinking of the Caribbean for some winter sun, have you considered the Dominican Republic?
I am somewhat biased as 2015 will be my fourth visit.
This will be the third with my husband, and the first in 1997 was in my single days. The first time I went, it was to the north and we flew into Puerto Plata. I don’t recall the transfer being too horrible, but it was a few years ago now.
The last two times, and this next time, we have been to the south of the island – it really is true Caribbean. White sands, sparkling clear blue water, and the odd beach bar thrown in so you can watch the sun go down.
When my husband and I went for the first time in 2009 he was not convinced he could do a 2 week beach holiday and enjoy it – we agreed to give it a try! Needless to say that the next one, and the one next year are/were for 2 weeks.
Each time we have gone with First Choice or Thomson and enjoyed the island very much.
All inclusive is not for everyone, but it does mean you can go without having to carry money around. We love the atmosphere, the consistent 30 degree sunshine, and we can dress for dinner in the evenings as the restaurants have dress codes.
We have chosen each of the hotels we stayed at because we wanted a good beach, and a beach bar.
Sitting supping a cocktail at 6pm local time, watching the sun go down , with your bikini/swimwear on – what could be better?
I am almost wishing the time away for my own holiday. Each time we have gone it has been for the New Year and almost all the resorts will have a gala dinner on. You may need to book, but they can be rather special.
If you are thinking of some winter sun to recharge the batteries, the Dominican Republic could be a very cost effective option.
p.s. We are going on a dream liner 787 next time, so lots of leg room and comfy seats, and superb air quality 🙂
