“The way you do one thing is the way you do EVERYTHING”
It’s a phrase I’ve heard countless times before, but never really paid attention to.
It’s simple enough, but when you really think about it, it can be the one idea you live the rest of your life by. They always say practice makes perfect, so why not be the best you can be in every aspect of life, not just the pieces that you think are important.
If you make doing your best a natural reaction to anything that life throws at you, the possibilities of what you can accomplish become endless. From how many times you hit snooze in the morning, to how you spend your time at work, to how you manage your relationships, every piece of your life matters.
It works the other way too, you can see right through someones fictional self just by ignoring what they say and watching what they do. The way they treat the waiter, the way they interact with people on the street, the way they stick to their commitments, it all means something.
The way they do one thing is the way they do EVERYTHING. There are plenty of practiced behaviours that may make you believe what they want you to see, but if you just look a little deeper and see their underlying actions, you can see everything about that person.
Don’t try and make someone fit into the idea of what you want them to be just by only seeing and hearing the things that you want to. Instead let the way a person conducts himself throughout the course of life show you who they truly are.
Sherlock Holmes said it best; “The little things are infinitely the most important.”
People are observing you too, even if they don’t know it.
From the way you walk around the gym to the way you enter a board meeting to the way you treat your staff, even the janitor. It all says something about who you are and your future actions. Be committed, be present and do your best, always, that is all anyone can ask. It really isn’t that hard.
