180 days ago Favour my Beautiful Black Shire cross ( with a thoroughbred ) mare, sprained the check ligament onto the deep flexor ( more a tear ) and the Vet confined her to six months in her stable.
After two near fatal bouts of colic the set up changed to turn out daily in a small paddock and walk for 20 minutes each evening in hand ( e.g. Me on foot ).
So Favour and I trudged our way through the wet, winds, snows, frosts and fogs of an autumn and winter in England.
I have been bitten, kicked, walked on, stood on, barged, squashed against the fence and drowned so many times I stopped the count !
But I promised Fav we would ride again and we will.
The three month scan gave us hope it was healing well and today 16th April 2015 the six month scan shows a nicely healed tendon.
Phew!! As only last week she galloped around her small field with spring and grass fever and I was sure she caused her tendon damage, but no it’s fine ;).
Now we start a 12 week program to get horse and rider fit.
Six weeks of walking and then six of trot and we should both be riding fit again.
I’ve missed riding like not having a right leg or left arm !
Riding, It’s my time, me and Fav and nature, no noise other than hoof on ground and snort and deep breathing ( from Fav) as we reach speed.
The feeling of flying is the only way I can describe a horse and rider in full gallop, majestic and poetic and so so great for the soul.
My soul cries out for that feeling of freedom, only another 84 careful days and we could be free again ;).
Be safe, be seen, ride like it’s your last go……
Favour and her lucky human Kev xxxx
p.s. Best bit being my own boss I can ride when I LIKE 🙂 and that will probably be first thing to get some fresh air and start the day on a high….
